We all had fun at the 'Black and White' disco on Monday night. It was a little chilly but the dance moves and costumes were impressive!
On Friday Year One joined the whole school to participate in the Marching Competition. Congratulations to Boolbee for winning. We then joined with Kinder to participate in 6 different sports activities. Students enjoyed Earthball, Long Jump, Sprint Races, Relays, Throwing Activities and Parachute. It was lots of fun trying so many different things. The Year Ones are pretty excited about racing with the big kids next year! Today students cooked crumpets and toast to learn about fractions, in particular halves and quarters. Students chose from jam, honey and vegemite and then had to share their crumpet or toast with a friend. Making this real-life connection is a very successful way of students learning and retaining maths concepts. Not to mention, a yummy snack to have on a cold day! While each group was cooking, the others were making a book about halves and using the Targeting Maths App on the iPads focussing on fractions. Miss Taylor read the students Where the Forest Meets the Sea by Jeannie Baker. The students really enjoyed the story and in particular, the illustrations. Students then made collages inspired by the book, choosing either a sea or a forest theme. They look great!
Year One followed a map and went for a walk around Broulee today to look at all the different types of shelters in our community. We discussed their purposes, what they are made of and how they protect us from the weather. It was a fun experience and generated lots of discussion.
We had a great day for the AFL Skills Day. Students from Broulee Public, St Mary's and Moruya Public went to Gundary Oval in Moruya for the K-2 Skills Day. We did activities such as kicking, handballing, running, jumping, tackling, marking and lots of other things. Our helper from Carroll College Ashley was really helpful and the bus trip was good too. We all had a fun day. |
